While the Discovery has led the Land Rover showroom from its debut in 1994, the Discovery Sport debuted in 2016 and was the most sought after model in 2019. It feels only fair to compare the new 2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport and the 2020 Discovery.
Both vehicles share similar designs in and out. Beginning with the outside both have two front grilles, but the Discovery’s bottom grille is covered by a bumper making it much less visible. You will also notice that as a whole, the Discovery’s exterior is constructed with a bigger wheelbase, length, width, and height than the Discovery Sport. Both vehicles are designed with 20-inch wheels, Premium LED headlights with signature DRL, back video cameras, and optional tow hitch assist. Front fog lights and a Panoramic roof are optional in the Discovery Sport while they are standard in the Discovery. The Discovery comes with back/front fog lights and 360° car parking aid while the Discovery Sport comes with standard rear fog lights and optional front fog lamps and 360° parking aid. Both vehicles are designed with 20-inch wheels, Premium LED headlamps with signature DRL, rear video cameras, and optional tow hitch assist. The inside is designed with 3rd row seating, warmed and ventilated seats, 10-inch touch Pro, multi-functioning steering wheel, storage spaces, and a lot more. The Discovery has the choice to include Four-Zone Climate control while the Discovery Sport has a Two-Zone heat/AC control setup.
When it pertains to power these two SUVs are a little different. The 2020 Land Rover Discovery is fitted with an 3.0L Supercharged V6 that makes 340 horsepower and 332lb-ft of torque, it is mated with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The 2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport is powered by 2.0L Turbo 4-cylinder engine that produces 286 horsepower and 295lb-ft of torque, it is mated with a 9-speed automatic transmission. Advanced towing assist is optional for both, yet the Discovery has a higher towing ability than the Discovery Sport. The Discovery can return up to a combined 18 miles per gallon while the Discovery Sport gets 21mpg combined, making it more fuel efficient than the Discovery. Infotainment is essential for those long drives and luckily both vehicles have a lot of entertainment options and standard features making your drive an enjoyable one. Emergency Braking System, Lane Keep Assist, Front and Rear Parking Aid, Rear Camera, Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Assist, Cruise Control, and Speed Limiter are standard features in both SUVs. The option to add a Head-Up Display is also available on both SUVs. The Discovery Sport has a Driver Condition Monitor, while the Discovery does not. The Discovery has an 8-inch rear seat entertainment option while the Discovery Sport does not. The Discovery has an Meridian ™ Surround Sound System, Sirius XM™, and HD Radio which comes standard, while the Discovery Sport has the option to add these features. Both have Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto™, Interactive driver display, ambient lights, plus a lot more as entertainment features. Despite which option you pick, both are fitted with safety/security and entertainment features to keep you safe on and off the road.
